Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack made him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
